Haley oversees the accounting, reporting and tax functions for the firm’s investment funds including cash planning, financial statements and investor capital notices, and REIT compliance. She also assists in review of asset level reporting and cash needs for the funds’ investments, both internally and third party managed. Haley is a certified public accountant in the state of Massachusetts.

Diane Breed
Background
Diane Breed has led National Development’s Human Resources Department for over 20 years. Her leadership skills have helped the department significantly grow in the past few years. In particular, she fosters employee relationships, provides guidance to individuals as well as management teams, recommends and implements new company policies, and oversees the HR staff in all aspects of processing payroll, benefits administration, insurance, on-boarding and working with outside vendors. Diane takes great pride in promoting a pleasant work environment for all ND employees.
In her spare time, Diane likes spending time in Cape Cod with her family, friends and dog, Bella. She enjoys biking, gardening, re-purposing furniture, home decorating, and shopping for good deals.

Jessica is responsible for strategic operational oversight of all residential properties in the ND Communities portfolio. She oversees budgeting, capital improvements, staffing, marketing, leasing and day-to-day operations on her sites. Additionally, she assists the Development and Acquisition groups with decisions related to new properties in the portfolio.
Jessica started her career in the engineering and government sector, and has been involved in real estate since 2003. Jessica has been involved in the successful lease ups of many residential properties throughout the Boston market.
Jessica spends her free time with her husband and two young children, whom she credits with making her the multi-tasker she is today.

Kate joined National Development after eight years in private practice with Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP. She supports and implements the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing, permitting, development and asset management activities of the firm. During her time at Nutter, she represented a variety of real estate developers and owners, banks, life insurance companies, pension funds, real estate investment trusts and other institutional lenders in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions. In her spare time, Kate enjoys travelling, biking, hiking, cooking and yoga.

Erika has more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate with a focus on property management, working primarily on the ownership side. She oversees the management and operations for National Development’s commercial properties including capital improvements, tenant relations and budgeting.
Erika has had the opportunity to work on a variety of commercial product types including residential, industrial, office and retail both nationally and internationally. She has been involved in the acquisition, management and repositioning of more than 25 million square feet during her career.

Matt is currently working on the redevelopment of an industrial/office building in Boston and the master planning of a large mixed use project in South Boston. Prior to joining National Development, Matt oversaw the master planning of Water Street Tampa, a 53-acre development in Downtown Tampa, FL.

John is a LEED certified, registered architect who has worked in the field of real estate for more than 30 years as a project architect and development project manager. John has spent his career designing large scale projects, and has supervised office, residential, senior housing, hospitality and retail projects as a development manager. Most recently, John has worked on a range of senior housing projects including independent living, assisted living and memory care facilities throughout New England, Connecticut and New York.

Leah Harsfield
Background
Leah joined National Development as an asset manager in 2013 and was named Principal in 2021. Leah works on various product types including life science, office, industrial, and retail. She directs leasing strategy for new acquisitions, developments and key existing assets within the commercial portfolio including managing major lease expirations and new tenant prospects. Leah coordinates with the investment team to help make key decisions based on market factors including, tenant demand, rents, costs, competitive set, end user experience and capital markets. She plays a leadership role internally and within the industry to identify new trends in retail, prop tech, merchandising, space utilization, activation, and user experience and oversee effort internally to integrate progressive industry trends and best practices across the ND commercial portfolio.

Brian is focused on the firm’s investment strategy and oversight of the firm’s investment management platform. Brian co-founded National Development’s investment management platform, Charles River Realty Investors in 2006 and currently serves on National Development’s investment committee. In 2019, upon the close of its fourth fund, Charles River merged with National Development. Prior to forming Charles River, Brian was a Principal of The Davis Companies, a Boston-based investment and development firm. From 1984 to 2000, Brian was with Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P. (HFF), a leading real estate investment banking firm, most recently as a Senior Managing Director and head of the Boston Office.

Patrick has a background in capital markets brokerage and is experienced in all aspects of the commercial real estate transaction. Prior to joining the firm in 2019, Patrick worked as an associate for HFF in Boston.

Richard Schwartz
Background
Rich joined National Development in 2003 after sixteen years in private practice with Nutter, McClennen & Fish in Boston, the last eight years as a partner, and manager of the firm’s Real Estate & Finance Department at the time of his departure.
Rich oversees and directs all legal matters for the company, and is actively involved with the structuring of all of ND’s transactions and implementation and execution of its project finance, development, investment, acquisition, asset management and leasing activities.
Rich has extensive experience, both locally and nationally, in numerous sub-specialties of real estate law, including leasing, debt and equity finance, joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions, and zoning and land use. While in private practice, Rich represented a wide variety of clients including developers, life insurance companies, pension fund advisors, real estate investment trusts, and operators of healthcare facilities, corporations, universities and other not-for-profit institutions.

She currently manages the development of several multi-family/mixed use projects in the City of Boston, including a 180-unit residential project at the Ink Block, which will be the first co-living project in Boston. Sam’s completed projects at National Development include an urban 92-unit independent living/hotel mixed-use project in the Cleveland Circle neighborhood of Boston, memory-care assisted living projects in Andover, MA and Mashpee, MA and the leasing of approximately 80,000 SF of retail at the Ink Block project.

Steve has more than 20 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry working for some of the Boston area’s most active real estate owners, developers, and service providers, including Harvard University, AEW Capital Management, Spaulding & Slye, and Jones Lang LaSalle.

Background
Katie is responsible for managing all aspects of the real estate development process, including design, permitting, leasing, financing, and construction. Since joining National Development in March 2015, Katie has focused on the redevelopment and transformation of The District Burlington, a 1.3M SF suburban office park located in Burlington, MA; the development of Avenu at Natick, a 62+ Active Adult community; and two build-to-suit office buildings at University Station in Westwood, MA. Prior to joining National Development, Katie worked on a variety of project types including, large mixed-use developments, ground-up office buildings, institutional capital improvements, and high-end office fit outs.
In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with close friends and family, ideally in Cape Cod or on the ski slope!

Mike joined National Development after seventeen years in private practice at Nutter, McClennen & Fish in Boston, the last nine years as a partner. Mike has extensive experience in real estate transactions both locally and nationally. During his time at Nutter, he represented a variety of national and local institutional property owners, developers, REITs and financial institutions on a wide range of real estate transactions with a primary focus on leasing, acquisitions, dispositions and financings involving downtown office and retail properties, suburban office buildings, parks and shopping centers, mixed-use developments, residential properties and warehouse and industrial properties.

Kevin joined National Development after ten years in private practice at WilmerHale. He represents the company across a broad spectrum of legal matters, including acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, zoning, land use and permitting matters, debt and equity finance, leasing and development. At WilmerHale, Kevin’s practice focused primarily on the acquisition, development, financing and leasing of office, laboratory and R&D, senior living, retail, multifamily and mixed-use developments across the country.
In his free time, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, often skiing in the winter and on or near the ocean in the summer.
