Waterstone on High Ridge – Merit Winner
A New Senior Housing Community Has Replaced An Old Office Building In Stamford, Connecticut

National Development, a vertically integrated real estate company, separated two connected office buildings at the former campus of GE Financial, demolishing one of them to make room for the senior-living development.

Waterstone on High Ridge was constructed reusing parts of the existing office building foundations, utilities, and site amenities. During the demolition phase, the development team was also able to reuse the original office building concrete structural elements and granite base material by grinding these materials up and repurposing them as structural fill.

Located on a majestic hillside next to a wooded conservation area, the new development offers 87 independent-living units, 36 assisted-living residences, and 22 memory-care suites.

The layout integrates the different housing types into one seamless community, but also allows for amenities that specifically cater to each group.

Reflecting the area’s history and landscape, Waterstone on High Ridge has a contemporary New England farmhouse theme with a warm wood lobby, stone fireplaces, a library, and eight dining venues.

Residents have access to more than 30,000 square feet of common space, including a large fitness area, a movie theater, a game room, a pool, a salon, a mind/body studio, an outdoor senior-friendly exercise area, a putting green, vegetable gardens, and walking trails.
